Emilie Karlsson fights back to win in Goomburra
Following a challenging first round in unexpected conditions, the riders have been treated on some real Off-Road Enduro action during the third round of the Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) in Goomburra, Queensland.
After scrutineering the bikes and all riders having singed in, racing started at 9:00am this morning. The trail took the riders through a challenging circuit over two mountains with different kind of conditions. The two one-hour loops incorporated two special tests in each loop ranging from rocky, gnarly, off camber test to fast flowing motocross natural terrain tests.
Outright winner today, Toby Price (KTM Motorex), showed the field a clean set of heels by winning all eight tests setting a time of 37:25. Second place, Chris Hollis (37:58), managed to edge out third place, Daniel Milner (Yamaha CDR Team) by only eight seconds (38:06) after a full days racing.
E3 1st. Toby Price (37:25), 2nd. Stefan Granquist (40:01), 3rd. Geoff Braico (40:17)
E2 1st. Chris Hollis (37:58), 2nd. Matt Phillips (38:48), 3rd. Locklan Stanford (38:50)
E1 1st. Daniel Milner (38:06), 2nd. Glenn Kearney (38:46), 3rd. Tom McCormack (39:14)
Yamaha rider, Emilie Karlsson (23:03), finished first today followed by Sherco rider, Jessica Gardiner (23:47) and Kristie McKinnon (24:42) in the women's class.
Emilie Karlsson is very happy with her victory after the third round. "It has been a good first day. I feel like I am going a bit slow, but it is very slippery and there are a lot of rocks so it is hard to go really fast. I am looking forward to tomorrow. The event is well-organized and I am enjoying my time here in Goomburra."
The Vet's saw Kirk Hutton (39:54) finishing first. Damian Smith (40:24) came in second with Craig Weise (43:43) finishing three minutes behind him in third place.
Master's class had Mark Cockerill finishing first today setting a time of 22.17. Ian Jenner (23:12) second and Micheal Murray (23:52) just forty seconds behind him in third.
Dylan Heaton took the lead in the J4 class and set a time of 20:40. Second was Nick Tomlinson (20:49), followed by Dylan Brown (22:01) in third.
Will Ruprecht (22:19) finished first in the J3 class, with Travis Silk (23:39) in second and Scott Nobel (23:56) finishing third with just a gap of seventeen seconds.
J2 class had Jack Williams (25:30) as the winner with Kaden Groves (25:50) in second. With a gap of almost twenty minutes, Frazer Papamanolis (42:59) finished third. Frazer lost trail time due to the tough conditions of the course.
The dynamic duo conquered the podium together. Joshua Brierley (41:16) finished first and his brother, Mitchell Brierley , finished second (47:16). Due to the harsh conditions, the other riders in the J1 class did not finish.
