[NBMC] FW: Motorcycling Victoria: Recognition of Officials for March

April 4, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RECOGNITION OF OFFICIALS FOR MARCH

RECOGNISING Officials is part of Motorcycling Victoria's ongoing efforts to reward and acknowledge those volunteers who put so much into the sport of motorcycling.

Official's duties throughout Victorian Championship events are many and varied and they have the important responsibility to ensure that race meetings are conducted in the safest environment possible for competitors and spectators alike.

Two officials were recognised for their sterling efforts during the opening round of the 2013 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships at Newborough on March 23-24: Brad West and Rodney McGee. Damien Milton was recognised for his invaluable assistance at the opening round of the Victorian Off-Road Championships on the same weekend, across the road at Traralgon.

Brad is a Blue Rock MC member and was instrumental in preparing the venue and the track for the VSMXC. The venue was first-class, thanks to its preparation, and Brad's efforts have been a major part of this success. He also worked tirelessly over the weekend doing all of the tasks that made this track one of the best prepared and maintained tracks around and every official really appreciated his efforts.

"I became an official to help the club out, and it was a good way to be involved in the sport and to do my bit to progress the sport," Brad said. "You get a lot of satisfaction out of it and the people you meet along the way is great, it's a great social sport," Brad added.

"I was pretty humbled when I was told," Brad continued.

"It takes a lot of people to run a race meeting successfully and to be able to pick one person out of a large group would be pretty tough because without all of them being involved the event simply wouldn't go ahead or succeed; it really is a group effort."

Rodney was the Assistant Clerk of Course and did a sterling job all weekend. Rod took on all tasks for the newly-formed scrutineering team, and due to his input this was a resounding success and took it to new heights of compliance.

Upon hearing he had been recognised for his efforts at Newborough, Rodney replied: "I was pretty shocked because I certainly do not do this for the recognition, but it was appreciated. I do this to help the whole motorcycle fraternity in some way or another."

Rod also fulfilled his on-track duties all weekend and was very diligent and showed to key officials that he was worthy of the role he fulfilled.

"I also like to interact with the juniors and new riders so as to be able to help them understand the rules and the running of events so hopefully in the future they will become an official themselves and get the satisfaction that I get from it," Rodney added.

Damien Milton was recognised for his efforts at the opening rounds of the Victorian Off-Road Championships in Traralgon. Damien carried out all his expected duties to a high standard but also spent much personal time and effort involved in track preparation.

Damien also carried out his duties with professionalism but also with good grace at all times. With entry numbers and high expectations from riders and supporters alike, Damien was able to showcase the VORC and his club, MCRVC, at its best.
