FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEWBOROUGH WELCOMES STATE'S BEST MOTOCROSS RIDERS

VICTORIA's best motocross riders will grace Newborough when the opening round of the state's premier motocross competition – the 2013 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships – revs into life on the weekend of March 23-24.

With over 300 professional and amateur racers expected to compete, the Blue Rock Motorcycle Club, located on picturesque Coach Road, has been busily preparing for their arrival since December.

"The club's volunteers have put a lot of tireless work in over Christmas with maintenance work as well as track preparation," Blue Rock Motorcycle Club president Gavin Dunn said.

This year's competition will see the introduction a new professional class for the Open and Lites grades, which will consist of two 30 minute motos per day.

The championship, which is organised by dedicated volunteers of Motorcycling Victoria's Motocross Committee, is a four round competition and will visit other Victorian towns such as Swan Hill, Warrnambool and will finish in Outtrim in August.

With over 400 members registered on its books Blue Rock Motorcycle Club is one of the biggest clubs in the state. "We got a lot of members from Gippsland that ride but a lot come from Melbourne as well. We've got members from Werribee, Geelong, and Torquay. It's a great range of people and where they come from," Gavin continued.

"People like the way the club is run, we try and make it beneficial for our members. They also like our atmosphere and the uniqueness of our track. It's on the side of a hill and is really technical," Gavin added.

Victoria's best motocross racers like former two-time national champion Cameron Taylor; Kade Mosig, Sam Martin, Lewis Woods,  Kyle McKeddie, Jake Emanuelli, Joel Milesevic, Jack Simpson as well as two-time national champion Kristy Gillespie will be looking to get their respective seasons off to a good start when racing begins at the track on Saturday at 9am.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Sandy Kam, said that the 2013 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships is a great scoop for the valley.

"S
port is such an important part of community life, we are looking forward to continuing the great relationships we have established with Motorcycling Victoria and local club Blue Rock Motorcycling Club to deliver another great State event in Latrobe City," Cr Kam said.

"Events such as these strengthen our economy, profile and community capacity as well as showcasing our facilities," Cr Kam concluded.

"Huge thanks goes to our committee and our members who have been putting in the hard yards to get the club ready, and I hope everyone has a good weekend," Gavin continued.

"Hopefully, it goes off with a hit!"

Round 1 of the 2013 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships takes place at Blue Rock Motorcycle Club on Coach Road, just off Monash Road. Racing starts on Saturday at 9am and continues on Sunday. Spectator entry is free. Please visit www.bluerockmotorcycleclub.com.au.
