Josh Brookes gets surprise call-up for WSBK at Phillip Island
Motorcycling Australia (MA) is pleased to confirm Road Racing star Josh Brookes will compete at the Australian Round of the 2012 World Superbike Championship (WSBK) at Phillip Island from 24-26 February.
The former World Superbike and World Supersport rider has been called in by the Crescent Fixi Suzuki Team to replace injured rider John Hopkins for the season-opening event.
Currently plying his trade in the British Superbike Championship, Brookes is familiar with the premier SBK competition having first rode as a Wildcard in 2004.
This opened the door for Brookes to become a regular on the WSBK and Supersport scene in 2006-2007 before his move to the United Kingdom.
The Sydney-native is another product to come through the Australian Road Racing system, winning the 2005 Australian Superbike Championship before his move on to the world stage.
Brookes joins fellow Aussies Bryan Staring, Mark Aitchison and Wildcard David Johnson in the Superbike class for Phillip Island, with Broc Parkes and Jed Metcher flying the flag in the World Supersport Championship.
The 2012 WSBK Australian Round takes place at Phillip Island from 24-26 February.
For all the latest news, results and updates from all the Aussies in action at the Island be sure to check out the Official MA WSBK Website at www.ma.org.au/wsbk.
