October 19, 2011

Dear Clubs,

2011 MOTOCROSS FORUM: 'WE'RE LISTENING'

MOTORCYCLING Victoria will be hosting a Motocross Forum on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

"This Motocross Forum is all about listening to our members and clubs by making sure that they have the chance to speak openly about the issues that are affecting them," MV's Chief Executive Officer Andrew Weiss said.

Motorcycling Victoria is the State Controlling Body for all sporting and recreational motorcycling activities in Victoria. MV caters for nine different racing disciplines, including motocross, and currently has around 4500 members spread over 70 clubs around the state.

This forum will be a good chance for all motorcycling enthusiasts to come together to discuss the future development of motocross in Victoria.

A range of issues will be covered such as the State Championship, MV's Motocross Committee, club involvement, rule changes and procedures, MV's communication issues, and any other topics that are raised throughout the day.

"We hope to see as many people as possible to discuss the things that we do well at all levels throughout MV, and what areas people believe that we can improve on," Mr Weiss added.

An RSVP form is available on the website for anyone wishing to attend. All attendees need to hand in their RSVP form to the MV office by no later than Wednesday, October 26, to allow for catering.

Motocross Forum Invitation.

The forum will be held at the Broadford Hall on Murchison Street, Broadford, from 10am to 5pm.

MV urges all motorcycling enthusiasts to come along and join in on the discussion of the future of motocross in Victoria.

"After such a successful Road Race Forum earlier this year, it would be great to see a big turnout for this forum as it is an important step in the progression of motocross as a discipline in Victoria," Mr Weiss added.

MV CLUB CASE STUDIES

AS an initiative that we are set to roll out in the new year, Motorcycling Victoria would like to hear from our clubs about some of the success stories within your club.

We are interested in hearing about some of the initiatives,  developments, and interactions that have been introduced at your club that have been raging successes!

We would like to get further information about these from you in the future to develop into Case Studies, that can be distributed to all of our other clubs within Victoria's motorcycling family.

We want to get a pack together of the great success stories at club level, and share them with all our other clubs who can use them if they need.

So, what exactly are we after?

At this point, I'd love to hear from you if you want to contribute to this.  We need any examples of projects / initiatives that you may have introduced which would be beneficial to other clubs including:

  • Volunteer programs
  • Coaching programs
  • Official recruitment
  • Junior programs
  • Club inclusion activities
  • Development initiatives
  • And anything else along these lines!

If you think you may have an example of any of these being run successfully at your club, then please send through some information to ceo@motorcyclingvic.com.au and Andrew will get back in touch to follow this with you further.

MV ELITE RIDER TRAINING CAMP IN NOVEMBER

MOTORCYCLING Victoria will be holding an Elite Rider Training Camp over three days in November and is excited to invite riders from all disciplines in Victoria to apply.

Held on November 24th - 26th at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC), the camp will be an excellent opportunity for riders to improve their off-bike skills and knowledge of their sport along with some industry professionals to help them develop into more accomplished riders in the future.

Aimed at riders of all ages; individuals will need to be mature and have an exceptional attitude towards their riding and their sport. This opportunity is a fantastic chance for riders to excel in the sport and take their riding to the next level. It is hoped that this camp will form into a 'feeder camp' for national squads.

This camp will be for riders who ride at an elite level; therefore pervious results will be taken into account as well as the application form which will be reviewed by a selection panel.

The Elite Rider Training Camp will be entirely based off-bike, and led by Victoria's own Lee Hogan over the three days. Hogan will be heading some seminars on his own whilst other professionals will be providing the camp with some invaluable information about many different topics such as:

Day 1 will include fitness testing (Power Test), recovery techniques, injury prevention, and cross training techniques with gym tips.

Day 2 will include leadership and personal development, media training, sport psychology, motivation and goal setting, and a mentor session

Day 3 will include nutrition and dietary requirements, drugs in sport, sponsorship, and product safety.

MV will cover all costs of the camp from the Thursday through to the Saturday, including meals, travel and accommodation. Spots are limited.

To be considered for a spot in the camp all applications will need to be completed in-full, with no more than 1 A4 page of supporting documentation to:

MOTORSAFE: KICK-START DAYS

MOTORCYCLING Victoria's MotorSafe Officer will soon be in contact with clubs in regards to running a Kick-Start Day before the end of the year.

Wonthaggi Motorcycle Club, on behalf of the MotorSafe Program, was the first club to host a very successful Kick-Start Day.

8 new members that had particpated in a previous MotorSafe Presentations attended the informative day, which teaches juniors how to ride responsibly under supervision from qualified coaches.

Maffra-Sale Motorcycle Club will be hosting a Kick-Start Day on Sunday, October 30, and Cobram Border Junior Motorcycle Club will be running one on Sunday, November 13.

As an added bonus any Club that runs a Kick-Start Day in conjunction with the MotorSafe Program will receive a free practice day permit for use on the same day, so helpers and volunteers on the day can also have a ride.

MotorSafe Program participants recieve a Free Mini Licence Voucher as part of the course, and costs are very limited for a Club to host a day, which is a great way to help introduce new junior members to your Club!

LEVEL 1 OFFICIALS ACCREDITATION NOW AVAILABLE

LEVEL 1 Officials Accreditation had previously only been used for flag marshals, however it is now being used to accredit lower-level officials who will be able to run practice days and club days, without having to attend a day-long course and secure a Level 2 accreditation.

This will greatly assist clubs with running events and regular practice days throughout a long season and better reflects the levels of accreditation as set out in Chapter 9 of the General Competition Rulebook.

Click here to find out more on the Level 1 Officials Accreditation process.

Once applicants have completed an application and assessment form, they will need to send this into the MV Office to be marked and processed, and may take up to two weeks.

All Level 1 applicants who wish to apply as Clerk of Course in their specific disciplines will need to complete a WWC check (Working With Children Check), and a reminder to all officials that Level 2 is the lowest level of accreditation for a Steward and all officials who apply for Clerk of Course or Steward at any level need to complete WWC checks. Application forms can be found at your local Australia Post Outlet or can be sent to you by MV upon request.

MV feels this system will make it easier for clubs to have accredited officials, and assist clubs with being able to run events, as the number of officials will increase.
