Stoner prepares for MotoGP title tilt at Phillip Island
The stage is set for a spectacular weekend of racing at Phillip Island, and Aussie rider Casey Stoner is looking forward to spending time in his native country and putting his wheels on his home track for the 2011 IVECO Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
Stoner is no stranger to the iconic Island circuit, having taken four consecutive Australian MotoGP victories dating back to 2007.
"I like this track a lot and it suits me," the Repsol Honda rider said this afternoon's pre-race press conference.
"The cold [at Phillip Island] is something you can deal with, but the wind is really tricky."
The 2007 World Champion said he was enjoying being home, even though he was juggling a full schedule.
"There are more appointments, more things to do, but I am a lot more relaxed than last year.
"We went fishing, and we went to Bathurst, which was really nice."
Stoner enters the weekend with a 40-point lead over his sole Championship rival Jorge Lorenzo, and could secure his second world title by taking a 50-point advantage from this weekend, but the modest Aussie believes his chance of taking the overall victory this weekend are slim.
"My chance of this Championship this weekend is close to none," Stoner said this afternoon.
"For me to expect Jorge to finish outside the top four, and also for me to win the race is asking a lot."
Action gets underway tomorrow morning at 10:15am with the first Moto125 practice session, followed by the opening MotoGP free practice at 11:10am (AEST) with Moto2 at 12:10pm.
