FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
'DING-DONG BATTLE' FOR VICTORIAN ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIP LOOMS AT BROADFORD
JUST three points separate overall Superbike leader Steve Tozer and Queenslander Michael McMillan as the two head into the very final round of the 2011 Victorian Road Race Championships at Broadford's State Motorcycle Sports Complex on Sunday, September 18.
The 2010 Victorian Road Race champion won the Superbike class at the very same circuit by 66 points over fellow Victorian Andrew Ord last year, and will be hoping that history repeats itself next Sunday.
"It's good to have a points lead with the last round coming up, that's an advantage in itself," Tozer said.
Tozer and McMillan provided spectacular racing action for race-going fans during the third round of the 2011 Victorian Road Race Championships at Phillip Island in May.
The 52-year-old veteran rode phenomenally on an unpredictable world-renowned circuit; managing to grab a valuable 39 points, and a slender three-points championship lead.
Tozer is hoping that his intimate knowledge of his home track at Broadford will be the key to unlock yet another Victorian Road Race Championship.
"Being Broadford, which I am quite familiar with, I'm hoping to take away three wins," Tozer added.
"I've been riding there since 1991.
"It's a good little track. It's got a bit of everything. You've got slow corners, quick corners, and good breaking areas. It's a tight circuit, and it's quite a fun circuit to ride," Tozer added.
Tozer also holds a 14-year track record at Broadford when he flew around the circuit on his Honda CBR 1000 in 57.936 seconds on September 2, 1997.
On McMillan's chances, Tozer said: "He's quite a good rider. He gets around quite well, and hopefully he'll come back down (from Queensland) for the last round so we can have a bit of a ding-dong battle," Tozer remarked.
In conjunction with the final round of the VRRC, Preston Motorcycle Club will be also hosting the 2011 Motorcycle Show & Shine Day at Broadford, which will display a myriad of motorcycles for the passionate road race enthusiast.
The final round of the 2011 Victorian Road Race Championships takes place at Broadford's State Motorcycle Sports Complex, off Strath Creek Road, on Sunday, September 18.
